Submission Guidelines

All entries will be presented to a selection committee for review before inclusion in the exhibition. Artworks included in the exhibition will be presented to the jurors before the opening reception. Jurors will award one each — first, second, and third place Champions of the Exhibition.

Entry Parameters

Members of the Music City Sisters are not permitted to enter the exhibition. Artwork will be considered in all media, except film/video and/or performance. All artwork must have been produced within the last five years. Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Artwork may be offered for sale. Exhibitors are selected on the basis of the originality, artistic conception and quality of skill involved in the production of their work. Eligible artists must be 18 years of age and over, and living in the United States. The CD images must represent the artwork that will be exhibited if selected for inclusion in the exhibition. Artist’s entry will include a digital image file for each piece of artwork. The image file must be in one of three high-resolution file formats: JPEG, TIFF or PNG each with a minimum 150 dpi resolution and saved at no smaller than 3MB (or 3500 KB). The digital image of accepted artworks will be used in production of the exhibition catalog.

Because the image files are very large, you must use our file transfer website at on an account owned by friend of the Music City Sisters, Tommy Lawson.

Submissions are limited to a maximum of two (2) pieces per artist. Submission of entry does not guarantee acceptance into the exhibition. Selected artwork must be wired, framed (if media applicable) and ready to hang. Framed two-dimensional pieces over 36 inches must have Plexiglas instead of glass. Sculpture and three-dimensional works must be less than 7 feet in height and able to fit through a standard door. Artist must provide a pedestal if their artwork requires one. Entered and accepted work cannot be substituted and all work must be available for the duration of the exhibition. The Music City Sisters’ Alphabet Art, A Juried Exhibition of Queer Artists reserves the right to reject work delivered at the time of the exhibition that is not the artist’s accepted work.

A non-refundable submission fee of $10 per entry, payable to the “Music City Sisters,” will accompany the entry form.

Artist Statement

All artists should include a brief statement, maximum of 500 words, on the work submitted. Explain your choice of media, subject matter, training, influences, etc. Make sure you reference the work submitted rather than your biographical and exhibition information. This information will be use in the exhibition catalog.

Liability: Insurance protection is the responsibility of each artist. Neither the Music City Sisters nor OutCentral Cultural Center, the gallery location, their directors, staff or volunteers nor anyone connected with the art exhibition, will be responsible for loss or damage, however caused.

Shipping and Receiving Accepted Works

  • Shipping:  All work must be shipped via FedEx or UPS to Carter Witt, 2718 Mashburn Road, Nashville, Tennessee 37210-5440. See Exhibition Schedule for shipping delivery deadline.
  • In Person Delivery:  A delivery location in Nashville, Tennessee will be provided upon request.
  • Notification:  Artists will be notified of acceptance in the exhibition by email.
  • Sale of Artwork:  The Music City Sisters encourages sale of exhibited artworks. If your artwork is not for sale, please mark NFS on your entry form. The Music City Sisters will graciously accept a donation from artists who sell works of art displayed in the exhibition.
  • Media/Public Relations Release:  The Music City Sisters reserve the right to use the digital images, provided with the entry, of accepted and exhibited artwork for the purpose of PR and advertising.
